Based on a recent report released by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the OC-LA metropolitan area had the 4th largest growth in jobs for the past year. Since March 2011, there were 63,100 new jobs in the OC-LA area. Orange County accounted for 26,400.
The report looked at new jobs created in 372 different metropolitan areas across the US. The top three areas for job growth were:
- New York-Northern New Jersey with 112,000 jobs
- Houston with 82,300 jobs
- Dallas-Forth Worth with 70,000 jobs
Orange County still had an unemployment rate of 8.1% for March of 2012. However, this rate was tied for the third lowest in California.
Riverside/San Bernandino still stuggles with a 12.7% unemployment rate, which is the highest rate for areas with a population of 1 million or more.
